Thursday 5th to Monday 9th October 2006: BOLIVIA, Uyuni

Uyuni (3,865 meters above sea level) is a small ex-mining town located in south west Bolivia. There really isn't much to do here (but it's certainly a lot more bearable than Calama!) and now Uyuni is used as the starting point for the jeep tours of the nearby salt flats of Bolovia, the largest in the world.

Arriving later on Thursday night after our exhausting and ridiculously long train ride, we did no more than find somewhere to sleep. Friday we awoke still feeling the effects of the incredible altitude (which only wore off after taking anti-altitude sickness tablets) so we made sure we took everything slow and got enough rest in preparation for the following mornings start of our 3 day jeep tour of the Salar De Uyuni and its surrounding sights.
