Saturday 7th October 2006: BOLIVIAN SALT FLATS TOUR: Volcan Tunupa
From the Salar De Uyuni we drove to the edge of the Salar to the island of the dormant Volcan Tunupa (5400 meters). Here we picked up the other couple joining us on this trip and they had chosen to spend the night at the island in order to climb the volcanoe! At the island we had our first sighting of the many Flamingoes that live in this part of the world and we were also able to get up close to the the many Llamas that were grazing.
At the base of the island that we enjoyed eating a freshly cooked lunch (prepared by the Vicente, the wife of our driver Ollegario) of Llama (has a livery taste), quinoa and salad all served lovingly on a picnic table complete with tablecloth, proper cutlery and napkins! A wonderful lunch and setting!
