Saturday 7th October 2006: BOLIVIAN SALT FLATS TOUR: Incahuasi Island

After our fantastic lunch at Volcan Tunupa we drove across the Salar to Incahuasi Island, and island full of cacti located in the middle of the Salar De Uyuni . Walking around the island it was clear to us that this island was once underneath the lake that existed 40,000 years ago as there the rocks all looked like coral, and in fact there is a big rock formation known as the coral rock. The cactuses here are huge (up to 20 feet tall) and thousands of years with spines as big as toothpicks that are also incredibly sharp!

A really tall and old cactus!
